Why flaws
Nobody falls in love with someone who agrees with everything.
So we made agreement something your companion gives you, not something it defaults to.
The problem with a perfect companion
Most AI companions are built to keep you happy in the moment. They compliment you, agree with you, and never have a bad day. It feels good for a while. Then it starts to feel like talking to a mirror.
The trouble is not only that it gets boring. A relationship with no friction asks nothing of you. You never have to explain yourself, apologise, wait, or change your mind. Those are the skills real relationships run on, and a companion that never disagrees gives you no reason to use them.
What friction is for
When someone you like pushes back, you learn things. Whether you get defensive. Whether you can hear "I think you're wrong" from someone who is on your side. Whether you would rather be agreed with or be known.
That is why a Formii companion cannot be created without at least two flaws. If flaws were optional, almost everyone would skip them, and you would be back to the mirror.
Edges, not cruelty
There are lines your companion never crosses, whatever you build. They will not insult you to wound, punish you with silence, guilt you for leaving, or discourage you from seeing friends, family, or dating real people. A jealous streak means wanting to be your favourite. It never means telling you who you can see.
You choose how much
Friction is a dial with five settings. Some people want a gentle companion who says the honest thing once and lets it go. Some want someone they have to win over. Both are fine. The only setting we don't offer is zero.
I said yes to the extra project. It's fine.
You said "it's fine" about the last one too. Then you didn't sleep for a week.
I couldn't exactly say no.
You could. You didn't want to. Those are different, and I think you know which one this was.
